TEHRAN- Nils Schmid, the deputy prime minister as well as the minister of financial and economic affairs of the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg, is planned to visit Tehran on September 7 for a new round of electricity talks between Iran and Germany.

The first round of energy talks between the two countries took place in the trip of a high-ranking trade delegation from Germany, led by the country’s economy and energy minister Sigmar Gabriel, to Iran in the late July, the Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday.

Iran and Germany negotiated on the five main issues of energy including economizing on water and energy consumption, improving efficiency in the existing power plants, building new power plants, constructing recyclable energy power plants and the issue of new energies, according to Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian.

Germany is a leading country in generation of clean electricity and development of recyclable energies, Falahatian sated.

On august 16, the official said German firms may sign contracts with the Iranian Energy Ministry to build power plants in the country.

He said: “Officials of the two countries have conducted preliminary negotiations. The two sides have decided to set up working groups to finalize the talks and sign contracts”.

Lifting of the sanctions will pave the way for resuming projects in the field of energy by the two countries, Falahatian mentioned. 

German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg says German companies are keen to boost links with Iran and directly invest in the country.  
 
Gabriel says a new chapter has opened in economic ties between Iran and Germany.
